**Quick answer — What is a US city proxy?**

A US city proxy is a residential IP that the gateway picks in the city you name, so websites see a visitor from that city. **MetroProxies**, a US residential proxy provider with city-level targeting, sells them from $0.50/GB (October 2026), with state, ZIP and ASN targeting included. City availability varies. No KYC; crypto payments.

## What do I get with a US city proxy?

| Attribute | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Price | $1.50 for 1 GB, $5.94 for 10 GB, $0.50/GB from 100 GB (October 2026) |
| Targeting | Country and city targeting on every plan; in the United States also state and ZIP code; ASN targeting at no extra cost. City availability varies |
| Cities with a page | 181 (every US city with 150,000+ residents, Census 2024) |
| States | all 50 US states and Washington, D.C. |
| Username format | `USERNAME-country-{cc}-state-{state}-city-{city}-zip-{zip}-asn-{asn}-session-{id}-ttl-{minutes}` |
| Rotation | Each new connection gets an IP from the pool, usually a different one; to get a new IP on every request, send one request per connection (turn off keep-alive) |
| Sticky sessions | up to 30 minutes, set per session with the ttl parameter; the IP can change earlier |
| Protocols | HTTP, HTTPS (CONNECT) and SOCKS5 |
| Authentication | Username and password on every plan, or an IP allowlist (up to 10 IPs). Sub-users with their own credentials and traffic cap. API keys you can revoke at any time |
| Traffic | Prepaid residential and rotating-mobile traffic never expires: unused GB stay on your account until you use them |
| KYC | No KYC: no ID, no selfie, no documents to sign up, top up or buy |

## Why target a city instead of the whole country?

Many US websites change what they show by metro area, not by country. A national IP gives you one random place; a city IP gives you the version that people in that city get.

- **Local search and maps:** the businesses listed for "plumber" in Tucson are not the ones listed in Tampa.
- **Prices and stock:** grocery, retail and delivery sites often price by store or ZIP code.
- **Ads:** campaigns are bought by designated market area or ZIP radius, so a creative may run in Denver and not in Aurora.
- **Your own product:** store finders, geo-redirects, tax and shipping estimates need testing from the places your customers live.

A country-level pool spreads requests across 50 states. With `city-` targeting, every request in a run comes from the same city, which makes results comparable from one day to the next.

## How do I write the city into the username?

Add segments to your username, left to right, from the widest place to the narrowest. Use only what you need.

- `USERNAME-country-us` — any US residential IP.
- `USERNAME-country-us-state-oh` — any IP in Ohio.
- `USERNAME-country-us-state-oh-city-columbus` — Columbus, Ohio. The state matters: there is also a Columbus in Georgia.
- `USERNAME-country-us-state-oh-city-columbus-zip-43215` — downtown Columbus.
- `USERNAME-country-us-state-oh-city-columbus-asn-20115` — a Spectrum (Charter) IP in Columbus, when one is online.
- `USERNAME-country-us-state-oh-city-columbus-session-col1-ttl-20` — the same Columbus IP for up to 20 minutes.

City names are lower case with underscores for spaces: `city-new_york`, `city-salt_lake_city`. Each [city page](https://metroproxies.com/cities/) prints the exact segment, and the [username reference](https://metroproxies.com/docs/username-format/) lists every parameter.

## Which plan should I start with?

Start with 1 GB to check that your target accepts the city you need, then buy volume. All tiers include every targeting option.

| Plan | Quantity | Price | Price per unit |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Test | 1 GB | $1.50 | $1.50/GB |
| Local | 10 GB | $5.94 | $0.59/GB |
| Regional | 50 GB | $25.98 | $0.52/GB |
| National | 100 GB | $50 | $0.50/GB |

In every plan: City, state, ZIP and ASN targeting · Rotating or sticky sessions up to 30 minutes · HTTP, HTTPS and SOCKS5 · Sub-users with their own traffic cap · Traffic that never expires

**Before you pay**

- You top up the price of your plan. The checkout asks for the plan price (less your balance), at least $25; anything left stays on your balance.
- Unused balance stays on your account and never expires. When a purchase costs less than the minimum top-up, the part added only to reach the minimum is refundable on request to support within 30 days of the payment, in USDT or USDC, as long as it has not been spent. The rest of the balance is not paid back, except where the law requires it.
- Credited once your payment is checked on the blockchain. Typical network confirmation time: BTC ≈ 20 min · USDT TRC-20 ≈ 1 min · USDT ERC-20 ≈ 5 min · USDC ERC-20 ≈ 5 min · ETH ≈ 5 min · SOL ≈ 1 min · LTC ≈ 15 min

## What happens when a city has no IP online?

Residential IPs come from real home connections, so the number online in one city moves through the day. City availability varies; the checkout shows what is online. When no IP matches, the request can fail, so check the exit location of each session before you trust a result: that is the only way to be sure two runs came from the same city.

What to do:

1. Retry once a little later; devices come online all the time.
2. Drop the narrowest segment first (ZIP, then ASN).
3. Widen to the state (`state-xx`) if the city is small.

Larger cities have more home connections, so they are easier to hit. The [city pages](https://metroproxies.com/cities/) show the number of homes per city from the FCC broadband map, which gives a rough idea of scale.

## What else do people ask about city proxies?

### Is a city proxy the same as a static ISP proxy?

No. A city proxy here is a rotating or sticky residential IP from a real home connection in that city. A static ISP proxy is an address hosted in a data center but registered to an internet provider, kept for weeks. MetroProxies sells residential IPs only.

### Can I target a US city that has no page on this site?

Yes. The pages cover every city with 150,000 or more residents, but the `city-` segment accepts other names too. Write the name in lower case with underscores (`city-santa_fe`) and keep the state segment. If no IP is online there, widen to the state.

### How many US IPs do you have?

We do not publish an IP count. Residential pools change by the minute, and a single total says little about one city. City availability varies; the checkout shows what is online. Test with 1 GB ($1.50) before you buy volume.

### Will the IP match the city in every database?

Not always. Geolocation databases disagree, especially near city limits and in suburbs. Check the exit IP in the database your target uses; the [verification guide](https://metroproxies.com/guides/verify-proxy-city/) shows how with curl, Python and Node.js.

### Do I need a different password for each city?

No. Your password stays the same; only the username segments change. You can run Houston and Miami in parallel from one account, or give each project a sub-user with its own traffic cap.

### Where do the residential IPs come from?

From established upstream partner networks whose device owners opt in and can opt out, as our upstream provider confirms. Read [where our IPs come from](https://metroproxies.com/sourcing/) and [about MetroProxies](https://metroproxies.com/about/) for the operator and the rules we apply.

**Ready to test a city with 1 GB?** 1 GB for $1.50, all targeting included. No KYC — pay in crypto. [See pricing](https://metroproxies.com/pricing/) · [All cities](https://metroproxies.com/cities/)
